How the Friends of the Library are making the most of Red Ants Pants Week.
The Friends of the Library, established in 2009, has been instrumental in supporting the local community through various initiatives. From its inception through the present, the organization has successfully organized used book sales during the Red Ants Pants Music Festival in July, as well as another sale on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. Additionally, they maintain used book sale shelves at several locations throughout the town and county. The proceeds from these sales have been utilized to fund the summer reading program, bring speakers into the community, and in 2017, to cover part of the cost for a storage shed for the Library. In one particular year, they funded a subscription for online classes, making them accessible for free to library patrons. Furthermore, in years past, the Friends of the Library received a Red Ants Pants Foundation Grant, which was used to purchase a media projector for library and community programs. This year, the annual Meagher County Friends of the Library Used Book Sale will be held on Friday, July 26, and Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m.to 1 p.m., allowing ample time for both locals and visitors from the Red Ants Pants Music Festival to support the organization. Additionally, the Meagher County City Library is partnering with the local Thrivent Five Star Financial branch to bring a unique community gathering to the area. Next Wednesday, July 24, the financial group and library invite the community to the local library for ‘Shred Fest’ from 1 p.m.to 3 p.m.At the event, individuals will have the opportunity to securely dispose of personal documents while enjoying refreshments and food to kick off Red Ants Pants Week. All donations from the event will directly benefit the Meagher County Community Foundation, as well as the Friends of the Library The Friends of the Library have played a significant role in supporting community resources and promoting literacy through various initiatives and events.
