Just last week, several Black Butte Copper employees participated in a tree planting day to further their commitment to environmental stewardship. This initiative also helps to fulfill the Black Butte Copper Mine’s 404 Wetlands Mitigation Permit plan, an important aspect of maintaining its legal standing and approval of Montanans in concerns to the environment. 

The Black Butte Copper Mine, located near White Sulphur Springs, is committed to upholding stringent environmental safety standards as mandated by federal and state regulations. The project has undergone rigorous environmental assessments and has obtained necessary permits, including those under the Clean Water Act, to ensure that its operations minimize ecological impact.

The mine's management has implemented comprehensive mitigation measures to protect local waterways and ecosystems, including advanced water treatment systems and continuous monitoring. By adhering to legal requirements and industry best practices, the Black Butte Copper Mine aims to responsibly balance resource extraction with environmental stewardship. The permit plan that the employee tree planting fulfilled is a 404 Wetlands Mitigation Permit, issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. This permit is required for activities that involve the discharge of dredged or fill material into waters of the United States, including wetlands. When a project impacts wetlands, the permit ensures that the impact is appropriately mitigated or compensated for through wetlands mitigation. Mitigation can involve restoring, enhancing, creating, or preserving wetlands to offset the unavoidable impacts of the permitted activity.
