Senior Center Continually Making an Impact

The local Senior Center constantly creates a healthy environment for older citizens.

Meagher County has a large demographic of older folks who are retired and who often need some sort of entertainment and socialization. In such a remote area, this would be nearly impossible for many elderly locals without the help of the Meagher County Senior Citizen Center. Beth Hunt is the main organizer of all of the activities at the community center. The Senior Citizen center provides many services to not only enhance the social lives of the Meagher area’s elderly, but also the physical wellbeing as well. In American people over the age of 65, more than two million suffer from some sort of depression. Thankfully, giving older residents a place of fellowship is known to help combat feelings of sadness or loneliness. Thus, the Senior Citizens Center also helps to improve the mental health of seniors in the community along side their bodily health. On the physical health side of things, the Meagher County Senior center offers exercise activities to help seniors who want to get active, but do not have the means to do so within their own home safely. In addition, the center also supplies a medical loan closet to help those in need of specialized equipment, like shower chairs, after events such as emergency surgeries or other injuries. In addition, the organization hosts events such as blood pressure screenings. The Senior Center supplements useful information on where to find the proper healthcare for visitors’ age and health as well. The center also distributes meals from the USDA’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program. This specific program is designed to help low income seniors over the age of 60 get the proper nutrition needed for their age. Activities wise, the Senior Center supplies a slew of entertainment for the region’s seniors. Lunch is a popular social time for many older residents who are looking for nutritious food and someone to talk to. Card games are a popular event as well. Puzzles can be found in the building, and there is a variety of books available to read at anytime. Special events are always displayed prominently for guests to learn about. The Meagher County Community Senior Center is located at 101 First Avenue SE. It is in the same building as White Sulphur Spring’s Preschool. The community center is open from the hours of 9 am to 5pm on Monday through Friday.
