With the new year right around the corner, local residents are already preparing for upcoming community events; one of which will be the 12th Annual No Rules Coyote Derby. Taking place January 24–26, 2025, at the Montana Roadhouse, this unique hunting event combines fun, camaraderie, and practical benefits for the community.

The derby aims to create a recreational event while also reducing the population of small, troublesome critters like coyotes, foxes, and badgers, which can pose risks to livestock and domestic animals. The "no rules" format of the derby ensures a fast-paced and fun experience, with all legal licensing requirements strictly observed. 

Teams of any size are welcome, and there are no age restrictions for participants. Registration begins on Friday, January 24, with a shotgun start at 8:00 p.m. at the Montana Roadhouse. A mandatory check-in will take place between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, and the final check-in is required by 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26. It is important to note that late check-ins will result in disqualification, so participants must plan accordingly.



The scoring system awards points based on the type of animal harvested. Coyotes are worth the most points at 15 each, followed by foxes at 10 points, badgers at 8 points, raccoons at 5 points, and porcupines at 3 points. Rabbits, while worth only 1 point each, have a limit of five per team. A fur buyer will be present, offering participants a chance to sell their eligible catches.


Beyond the hunting competition, the event features door prizes, a rifle raffle, and pots for both small and large dogs, as well as a wolf photo pot.
