White Sulphur Spring’s Parks

The town’s parks are taken full advantage of by youth and travelers, but who is in charge of them?

White Sulphur Springs is home to more than four parks. These include: the Joanna Memorial City Park, Rader Park, Springs Park and Ball Field, McStravick Park, and Charles M. Bair Memorial Park. These parks are often used by locals and travelers alike. The small community’s youth can often be seen getting good use out of the playground sets that are located at two of the parks (the Bair Memorial Park and Springs Park). Playground equipment includes swing sets, monkey bars, slides, merry-go-rounds, and various other apparatuses for children to use for amusement. In addition, the Spring’s Ballfield is used frequently for children’s t-ball and baseball games. The other parks with picnic tables and covered buildings are often used for travelers to stop in and take a rest from driving. Rader Park, located in between the school’s track and the Spa and Hot Springs Motel, is often seen with cars and visitors resting and letting their dogs out to move around before continuing on their way. Joanna Memorial City Park, or the Bandshell, is often used for events like outdoor music exhibitions and community barbecues. The Springs Park is also commonly used as a gathering place for small celebrations such as family reunions or birthday parties. The White Sulphur Springs Park Advisory Committee is charged with the task of maintaining and making improvements to the city’s parks. The committee is comprised of Jennifer Frazer (Chair), Carol Berg (Vice Chair), Tressa Blair, Kelly Huffield, Jordan Kibbee, and Pattie Berg (City Council Liaison). The committee meets regularly to discuss developments, make a Parks Master Plan, and address any current issues that may come about. For example, at the May meeting, the committee discussed the costs to place portable toilets at McStravick Park, the possibility of a pickle ball clinic at one of the parks, and the delegation of certain tasks to different members. Overall, the parks of White Sulphur Springs are continually being developed to better serve community members, as well as those who are not residents of Meagher County.
