Small Town, Big Wins
Local BPA chapter finds triumph in the Windy City.
In March, local members of the White Sulphur Springs Business Professionals of America competed at the Montana Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Conference. Competing at numerous events at the competition, five students punched their tickets to this year’s National “Seize the Opportunity” Conference held May 10-14, 2024 in Chicago, Illinois. Last weekend, the five students—Tanner Novark, Natalie Fisher, Allie Lester, Kendra Manger, and Jessa Rassmussen—along with their chapter advisor, Julie Hanson, traveled to Chicago, Illinois for the event. The students were required to fundraise in advance for their trip expenses, including plane tickets, meals, and hotel rooms. The small group competed in their three distinctive pre-qualified Business Professionals of America events: Advanced Office Systems and Procedures, Administrative Support Team, and Fundamental Word Processing. Several other teams from Montana were also present at the event, along with over 1000 chapters from around the country. Over the course of their short trip, along with participating in other BPA-sanctioned events, the group also enjoyed small tours of parts of the city. At the BPA national conference, regular sessions are held where all participants are required to attend in business professional attire. Through participation in BPA, all members are intended to find a strong sense of confidence and knowledge about the business professional world. Although a small group, the Meagher County Business Professionals of America Chapter found great success in the big city. The Administrative Support Team, comprised of Tanner Novark, Natalie Fisher, Kendra Manger, and Jessa Rassmussen, won third place at the national level. Additionally, competing individually in Advanced Office Systems and Procedures, Natalie Fisher was crowned the national champion of her event. The Meagher County BPA Chapter's performance at the national conference is indicative of the comprehensive skill set being developed at White Sulphur Springs School. The school's endorsement of extracurricular programs such as BPA competitions underscores its role in nurturing essential leadership and professional abilities among its students to prepare them for a world-class workforce. The students' achievements at this level are a reflection of their earnest dedication and professional diligence. Photos via WSS BPA Instagram (@wssbpa).
