Library Features Haunting Tales
Halloween season is alive and well within Meagher County.
As the end of October is nearly upon White Sulphur Springs already, the county continues to dive deep into the fall (and the Halloween) spirit. The local library, especially, has accepted the season with full energy and has provided events to locals in accordance with the time of year. For instance, the Meagher County City Library will be having Halloween themed story times for kids and, earlier this week, the library hosted an online conference call with an eerie undertone. The online meeting was hosted via zoom on Thursday, October 12 from 6:30 to 8 pm and had the purpose of chatting with local Montana author, Ellen Baulmer. Although advertised by the Meagher County City Library, the online lecture was officially provided through the Montana State Library. Ellen Baulmer is an award winning author based out of Helena. Baulmer is an accomplished historian, editor, and storyteller. Notably, Baulmer was the Montana Historical Society’s interpretive historian from 1992 until her retirement in 2018. Baulmer Some individuals may be wondering: “How was this online meeting related to Halloween?” In accordance with the spooky time of Halloween, the main theme of the conference call was, “Hauntings of Montana.” The event featured Balmer’s tellings of the history of Montana and what can only be described as supernatural encounters within various areas of the state. Baulmer may be interested in Montana history as a whole, but has a special hobby of investigating records pertaining to haunted buildings/places and paranormal activity within the Big Sky Country. Baulmer has authored several books that all feature themes pertaining to eerie happenings within certain regions of Montana. One such book, for example, is “Montana Chillers: 13 True Tales of Ghosts and Hauntings.” Baulmer’s literary work features several historical accounts of stories in relation to areas like Conrad, Virginia City, and Bannack. Baulmer has captured the unique ability to combine important history, goosebump inducing tales, and non-fiction stories all into an interesting blend that is bound to keep readers engaged. In continuation of the Halloween spirit and the theme of Montana Hauntings, the Meagher County City Library has several of Ellen Baulmer’s books and stories on display. These can be checked out through the library’s system for reader’s who wish to get chills from spooky tales while simultaneously learning more about the Treasure State’s history.
