Meagher County experienced a dramatic shift in winter weather over this past weekend, with several inches of snow blanketing the region on Saturday night and into Sunday. The fresh snow has also boosted conditions at Showdown Montana, which reported over 24 inches of new snow since Sunday, including nine inches in the past two days. With its slopes now in prime condition, Showdown is preparing for an influx of visitors as it remains open daily from December 20 to January 5, offering locals and visitors alike the perfect opportunity to enjoy the winter break.

Today, however, residents face less favorable conditions as the National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for Meagher County and surrounding areas. The warning is in effect from 11:00 AM to midnight on December 18. West winds are forecasted to reach speeds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts as high as 65 mph. This warning covers the Interstate 90 Corridor, Meagher County Valleys, and nearby mountain ranges. High winds may cause loose debris to move, damage property, and result in isolated power outages. Travel could also be hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Residents are advised to secure outdoor Christmas decorations and prepare for potential power outages/disruptions.

As Christmas approaches, travelers and locals can look forward to more moderate weather conditions. Temperatures are expected to rise throughout the week, peaking at 45°F on Saturday before gradually cooling to the mid-30s on Christmas Eve and Day. While no additional snowfall is anticipated over the next 10 days, icy conditions could develop as temperatures hover around freezing, creating potential roadway hazards.
